THE APOCALYPSE OF ABRAHAM

The Apocalypse of Abraham

The Apocalypse of Abraham

This is only a brief description of the text.

1. Rejection of Idols and the House of Terah

  • The Broken Statues: The narrative begins with the protagonist tending to his father Terah’s stone and wooden idols in Chaldea, discovering a fallen stone god whose head has broken off, prompting deep reflection on the vanity of manufactured objects.
  • The Fire and the Voice: After reasoning with his father about the uselessness of idols, a divine voice commands him to leave his father's house, immediately followed by a destructive fire that consumes the dwelling.

2. Journey to Mount Horeb and Celestial Ascent

  • The Angelic Guide: Commanded to bring a pure sacrifice, he is met by the angel Jaoel, who strengthens him and guides him on a forty-day journey to the mount of God, Horeb.
  • Ascent Through the Firmaments: Borne upward on the wings of birds and accompanied by celestial winds, he passes through successive firmaments, witnessing blazing lights, ruling elements, and heavenly songs of praise.

3. Visions of Creation, History, and Judgment

  • The Cosmic Picture: Standing upon the highest firmament, he is shown a panoramic vision of the universe, the Garden of Eden, the tree of knowledge, Adam and Eve, and the presence of the adversary Azazel.
  • Future Ages and Restoration: The vision reveals the history of human actions, the trials of future generations, the ten plagues of judgment, and the final gathering of the righteous by an elect figure at the close of the age.
