HEBREW GOSPEL OF MATTHEW - CHAPTER 27

CHAPTER 7 (Part 2) — Section 027 [MT 7:6–12]

Note on Textual Divisions & Concordance Markers:
The section titles (פרק ראשון, פרק שני, etc.) follow the authentic internal layout of Shem-Tob's Hebrew text, which organizes the Gospel of Matthew into 116 structural pericopes. The traditional 28-chapter and verse divisions ([MT X:X–X]) did not exist in ancient manuscripts; they were devised centuries later by Western scholars (Stephen Langton in 1205 and Robert Estienne in 1551) to build Latin concordances. The standard chapter/verse citations are included in brackets solely as a concordance reference for readers navigating standard printed Bibles.
# Shem-Tob Hebrew Text Concrete English Translation
Further he said to them: "Do not give holy sacrificial flesh to dogs, and do not place your very presence before swine, lest he ravage your inner house before your eyes, and they turn back to rip you to pieces.
Ask from the El and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and they shall open to you.
For everyone who asks receives, and to the one who seeks he finds, and to the one who cries aloud with a clear voice he opens.
Who among you whose son shall ask of him to break bread in fellowship, and he gives him a stone?
Or if he shall ask a fish, and he gives a serpent?
And if you, being evil, know how to set forth wholesome gifts before your own household, how much more so your Father who is in heaven, that he shall impart his life-giving breath to those who seek him!
And all that you desire that the sons of Adam should do to you, do also to them; for this is the Torah and the words of the prophets."

Consonantal & Paleographic Notes

  • The Consecrated Offering vs. Mercenary Enforcers
The text specifies basar qodesh (sacrificial flesh set apart for the sanctuary), which Greek translators watered down to "that which is holy." Consecrated flesh could only be eaten by clean priests within the holy place. Throwing holy flesh to dogs represents prostituting the consecrated agency of the soul to mercenary powers—the violent enforcement apparatus maintained by ruling elites to guard their wealth.
  • The Countenance, the Deceiving Tongue, and the Inner House (Verse 6):
Where western Bibles read "pearls before swine," the plate reads ve-al tasimu peneikhem lifnei ḥazir ("do not place your presence before swine"). Your panim (face) represents your essential identity, bone, and divine likeness. To prostrate your presence before swine means submitting the core of your being to an unclean, predatory system.

The verb yekhasmenu (יכרסמנו) echoes Psalm 80:13, where the wild boar wastes the vine. The devastating weapon of this predatory beast is the flattering, deceitful tongue of statecraft. The abrupt feminine pronoun otah (אותה — "her / it") reveals the true casualty: the swine does not merely crush physical trinkets; it ravages the inner house and sanctuary of the believer. Bowing before worldly power invites an unclean appetite that tears the living temple to pieces from within.
  • The Pure Cry at the Threshold (ולקורא יפתח):
In verse 8, rather than repeating the participle for knocking, the Hebrew shifts to u-le-qore'a yiftaḥ ("and to the one calling aloud he opens"). This is the voice of the disciple who has forsaken the flattering language of men and cries out in the pure speech of covenant faith. To the one who calls upon the Father in secret, the threshold of the heavenly dwelling is opened with total sabbatical fullness.
  • Apportioning Bread and the Covenant of Peace (לפרוס לחם):
In verse 9, the son does not merely ask for food; he asks liphros leḥem ("to break and apportion bread"). In Semitic thought, breaking bread together is an act that establishes mutual peace and wholeness. A ruler or father who answers this covenant request with a jagged stone violates the peace, offering a weapon of execution instead of nourishment.
  • The Impartation of Living Breath (רוחו הטוב):
Verse 11 clarifies that the Father does not merely provide generic "good things," but imparts ruḥo ha-tov (His life-giving breath). Human empires offer stones of warfare and serpents of deceit under the guise of security; the Father directly infuses the inner vessel with the primordial breath that sustains life.
  • The Measure of Adam (זאת התורה):
Verse 12 concludes by establishing the rule of life among all benei Adam (sons of Adam). Worldly leaders incite ethnic hatred, national pride, and predatory conquest. The true Torah of the prophets stands upon treating every child of God as you desire to be treated, utterly dissolving the pretexts for war and exploitation.
Core Diagnostic: Do not surrender the consecrated presence of your soul to predatory regimes. The devouring beast uses the flattering tongue of institutional authority to breach the inner house of the believer. The Father provides true peace and His living breath directly to those who call aloud, establishing His covenant in love toward all the sons of Adam.
